Sacred Heart practices the corporal work of mercy of feeding the hungry by operating a food pantry. Other food pantries within the city of Nacogdoches coordinate to serve members of the local community at different times of the month. All three food pantries currently in service use their donations to purchase items from the East Texas Food Bank at a great3ly reduced cost, much cheaper than buying from local grocers. Sacred Heart currently uses 100% of all donations to purchase food. Any other items needed (shelving, etc.) are donated, so as not to reduce the amount of food that can be purchased from the food bank. We serve an average of 350 families
Currently, our food pantry is only open once a month - on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
There are many volunteer opportunities – packing/staging groceries on the Monday afternoon/evening before distribution, picking up food in the mornings from Kroger and Mrs. Baird’s, and on distribution day – traffic controller, groceries packer, greeter, check-in person (bi-lingual assistance needed) and selection rack assistants. We would love to have you join us on our mission to feed the hungry. If you can not donate your time, we will gladly accept your prayers and monetary donations for this ministry. Donations may be made by cash or check through the office or Poor Box in the foyer of the church. Online donations through this website will be available soon. Thank you for your generosity!
